Title: The Definition of Perpetual Motion
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels
Fandom/Genre: Supernatural AU
Pairing(s): Dean/Castiel, background Sam/Jess
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 41,112
Warnings: Trigger warnings for discussion of depression, mental illness, and past sexual and psychological abuse of minors.
Disclaimer: I don't own SPN.
Author's Note: While I have researched the topics that I've tackled in this story and have done my best to portray those issues sensitively and with respect to those with greater knowledge from first hand experiences, I have no doubt that there are aspects of this story that aren't completely realistic (either due to some gaps in my knowledge or a purposeful decision to gloss over details for pacing's sake). I hope that those unrealistic aspects are not so numerous as to hinder anyone's enjoyment of this story, but if they do I would just like to say thank you so much for giving this story a chance, anyways. :)
(Neurotic) Author's Note: Castiel makes some seriously irresponsible decisions regarding boundaries with Dean and Sam. I am not unaware of this and the character does see his faults for what they are. This aspect of the story is not meant to seem "okay" to anyone because it really isn't.

Summary: Dean Winchester was doing all right. He had a good job, a few friends, and all the people he loved were safe. He got by. Then he got a call from Sam in the middle of the night. Sam wasn't all right, and it turned out he hadn't been for a long time. Dean's little brother had no memory of the last four years of his life and only pieces of years before that, and all Dean could think of was how he'd smiled as he waved Sam-who-wasn't-Sam off to college. Sam didn't want to take over Dean's life, but he didn't know where else to turn. Dr. Castiel Novak was "a bleeding heart" and he was beginning to realize that neither of the brothers had gotten through their experiences unscathed.

Wow - I can't quite really believe it's over. Writing TDoPM has been an INCREDIBLE experience for me. I feel like I've really improved in my writing, I have a MUCH better idea of my stamina levels on fanfic writing (meaning next time don't sign up without a buffer, for crying out loud! XD), and taking part in Big Bang has brought me AMAZING friendships - some stronger ones with friends I already had, and a few totally new people that just catapulted straight into my heart.

TDoPM would LITERALLY not have been possible without these people:

My beta/cheerleader/alpha/everything-ever, [livejournal.com profile] icelily01! I am DELIGHTED to have found her out of the many betas that signed up for the big bang challenge, and she has since become one of my best friends. :) This woman put up with me tearing my hair out in her general direction at LEAST weekly, covered for me when we had to rush like mad because my brain was broken, and was my constant grammatical and emotional support the whole way through! Granted, there were times when chatting with her slightly distracted me from my work - but that was my fault, not her's. ;) She always took care to explain grammatical rules to me when she saw me repeating the same mistake, and I really improved my writing under her advice and encouragement. I could really go on for paragraphs about what working with [livejournal.com profile] icelily01 has meant to me, BUT there are also other people who deserve recognition!

[livejournal.com profile] ratherastory joined me for countless writing jams during the course of TDoPM's development, and she gently wrenched me out of the throes of writer's block more than once. She was always matter-of-fact in her advice and absolutely unshakable in her faith in me. [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory is an author that I've been friends with for a while and I have always really admired her work (seriously, anyone who hasn't checked her out? Go, now!), so hearing her good opinion of me meant so much. She even recorded a podfic for me when I finished my first 20K! (Which I still can't quite believe, but hey, she's awesome! Negotiating With Terrorists by [livejournal.com profile] pyrebi, if anyone's interested ^_^)

A very special thank you to my amazing artist, [livejournal.com profile] haraism:

She is INCREDIBLY talented! And believe it or not, she only just started tackling manips for the art for this story. :)
[livejournal.com profile] haraism really understood my ideas even though I was kind of unclear with them, probably even better than I did. XD And she really took the core of my story to heart - I am so happy with how much Sam is featured in her art. When I asked her why butterflies seemed to represent Sam in her art, she told me it was because of how he transformed in the story and how he will continue to do so - that meant SO much to me that she took his growth to heart like that. As much as TDoPM is a Dean/Cas fic, it's also kind of my love story to Sam (I know, my love is very complicated). Sam still has a long way to go, but we all know how strong he is! I have faith in him!

...Um, but I digress. XD Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] haraism so much for all the wonderful work you did for this project!

And a hundred thank yous to everyone who helped TDoPM become what it is today! There are so many people who cheered me on and lifted my spirits during this time. I love you all. &hearts

Thank you to my readers, too! There wouldn't be much point without you guys, would there? ;)

Love, Kels

Okay, well, kind of big news. I AM EXCITED, ANYWAYS. =D

The posting schedule for the [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang is up and my fic will go up on the third day! =D (Oh dear god *hyperventilates*)

Here is the summary I provided for the art claims:

Title: The Definition of Perpetual Motion
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels | Artist: [livejournal.com profile] haraism

Pairing/s: Dean/Cas, Sam/Jess, some implied side-pairings.
Warnings (if applicable): Trigger warnings for discussion of depression, mental illness, and past sexual and psychological abuse of minors. AU with no Supernatural stuff.
Summary: Dean Winchester was doing all right. He had a good job, friends (Lisa and Ben, two people makes it plural), he slept at least 3 times a week. He got by. Then he gets a call from Sam in the middle of the night. Sam isn't all right, and it turns out he hasn't been for a long time. Dean's little brother has no memory of the last four years of his life and only pieces of years before that, and all Dean can think of is how he smiled as he waved Sam-who-wasn't-Sam off to college. Sam doesn't want to take over Dean's life, but he doesn't know where else to turn and Dean is the safest place he knows. Dr. Castiel Novak is "a bleeding heart" according to his collegue and friend (this relational fact continually baffles) Gabriel and he's beginning to realize that neither of the brothers have gotten through their experiences unscathed.

So mark your calendars! My big bang is released to the world on October 5th. One day before my birthday, even!

*dances and then runs off to write like a madwoman*

20119 / 20000 words. 101% done!

TAKE THAT, BIG BANG.

The fic is no where near done, but I qualify for an artist, and the rest should be a cake-walk compared to this! *knocks on wood*

Never ending love to my beta [livejournal.com profile] icelily01 and [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory for all their support in this - I would not have succeeded if it weren't for you both! <333333333 *less than three times infinity SEE I KNOW MATH*

This is me, right now:

OFF TO SLEEP FOR 5 HOURS BEFORE WORK SEE YOU GUYS LATER.

17165 / 20000 words. 86% done!

Approximately 3000 more words tomorrow night, and I will be golden! =D Not done the whole story, of course, but I'll have my first draft in, my summary put up for an artist to choose, and the bulk of my fic finished!

It's been an okay night. =D (lol, I'm going to be tired at work tomorrow... whatever!)

I was a little late to the party, but I've posted a snippet to my AU [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang fic here. :) If anyone's curious!
