My Thread!
Information is in the link, but basically I'll make a fake email account for the top bidder's favourite character (Supernatural, Harry Potter or Kingdom Hearts 1 and/or 2) and they'll get 10 emails from that character. I wanted to try something a little different. Check it out if you're interested!

I haven't made much headway in my [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema fic at all. I was debating about signing up at help_japan because now, with my writing speed and the other commitments I have (my help_queensland winner has been waiting very patiently), it's very likely that I won't meet that deadline and have to pull out of the challenge. The "How to Train Your Dragon" fic will still be written, of course, but it might have to be outside of the challenge, which I am a little sad about. Help_japan is way more important, though. My challenge fic certainly wouldn't be helping anyone (though with luck, it'll bring about a few smiles).

Obviously I didn't post a pic of my tattoo, and sadly now it will have to wait until it's in a more attractive healing stage. :S Besides that, everything is situation: normal. Take care, guys!

This is a panfandom charity auction.
[livejournal.com profile] j_quakerelief
This is a charity auction I heard about through [livejournal.com profile] icelily01 that is for fanfic/art/beta offers and bids and is specific to the Supernatural fandom. :)

(In other less important news, I spent my morning getting a new tattoo - I'll post pictures tomorrow since I didn't think to snap a pic with my phone before the bandages went on ^^; )

First of all, THANK YOU. From the bottom of my heart. You all are beyond wonderful and we, the people of Christchurch, cannot thank you enough for your generous support.

In fact... you've been so generous that the Red Cross donation website keeps crashing! I can't believe how generous everyone is being. So in the meantime, please consider donating to the Salvation Army Appeal as an alternative.

Thank you! ♥

EDIT: For newbies to my journal, no, I don't live in Christchurch, but the word should be spread. :)

I don't have a thread but I've bid on something - head on over if you have some spare time or spare cash, guys!

Well, it's been over for a few days, but I was still in my "on vacation" headspace. XD

It was so, so, so fun and I had a blast meeting [livejournal.com profile] icelily01 and [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory and it was all way too short, really. I bought a ticket for VanCon immediately after!

If I may direct your attention to this youtube channel, this girl had really good seats and got quite a lot of footage of the panels!

I was not expecting how struck I'd be by Jared - I expected Jensen, but it was Jared that I ended up slack jawed and holding up the line for two seconds for. Luckily he didn't notice, but GOD DAMN. Genevieve was also signing autographs as a surprise, and I REALLY hope she attends more cons. Everything was wonderful and I wish I had more to say but I spent the whole weekend in either glee or extreme tiredness and I can't really translate the experience, or possibly I am just too lazy. Sorry, guys. ^^;

I enjoyed tonight's SPN episode and it made me sad for all the characters. <3 (No spoilers!)

I've been having some pretty crippling writer's block for a while now, but I had a good idea today so I'll be signing up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema with "How to Train Your Dragon". ;)

Hey all!

Just to give you a heads up, there's only about a day and a half left if you want to bid on the 15,000 word podfic I'm offering here at [livejournal.com profile] help_queensland. :)

(In other news, my resolve to have restraint with my LA photo OP purchases has pretty much gone out the window, but I'm done now, I swear!)
elsewhere_kels: (Default)
Hey everyone! Just a heads up, I'm offering a maximum 15,000 word podfic at [livejournal.com profile] help_queensland here.

I'm also offering a fic of 10,000+ words here at [livejournal.com profile] waltzmatildah 's Flood Relief: Fic Fundraiser Challenge.

There are so many different comms. @_@ it's good, but I miss the original streamlined process.
elsewhere_kels: (SPN-Wee!chesters-Storytime)
So I've been playing around in the podfic community, but alas I've been a woefully disorganized at posting them to my own journal. XD So here are the last four podfics I recorded!

Some People Pray for World Peace by [livejournal.com profile] faege. :) This is a gorgeous and poignant peak into Sam's psyche. The fic really struck me. The podfic is under 10 minutes long and it's also gen, rated g.
Original Story

Silent Night by [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory
This was the first fic that [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory wrote in her Silent 'verse, a gen AU where Dean became deaf some time in his teens (I'm not specifying because that's somewhat spoiling for other fics). I've been in love with this verse for ages and finally got around to recording some of it (just in time for Christmas, too!) The next story in the verse will be forthcoming. :) This podfic is approximately 20 minutes long.
Original Story

As Notes of Music Are by [livejournal.com profile] kiwiana
[livejournal.com profile] kiwiana wrote this fic for the spn_j2_bigbang (the pairing is J2) and I was happy to record it into a podbook. I loved all the asides about the music community in this, as well as the main story line. :) The rating is NC-17 and the recording is about 2 1/2 hours.
Original Story

You and Everything I Wanted by [livejournal.com profile] icelily01
This story was such a joy to read, and I say that having read it quite a few times. I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to podfic it. I also had a lot of fun with character voices in this one - there was a bit more creative room than I usually get, since there are already voices for main characters. You and Everything features some lovely secondary OCs. =D The pairing is J2, the rating is strong R and the recording is almost 1 1/2 hours on the dot!
Original Story

Just a little side note - but I had quite a bit of fun with Silent Night and You and Everything - in Silent Night I got a chance to use my regularly singing voice, and in You and Everything I'm hammering out crappy singing. I loved the total switch, one after the other! (Seriously, the first couple lines of the podfic are belted pretty loudly. Just so you know. XD)

This youtube video is one of the best explanations I've seen about how homosexuality is not a choice. This guy is clear, to the point, passionate, and he knows his stuff. I really enjoyed watching the video.

Also, this is a Sherlock BBC fanfic. It's very, very short, but just. Trust me. Read it. It's amazing. I cried.

Signal boosting [livejournal.com profile] bedamn's original post:

I'm posting this to boost the signal regarding the current state of the flooding in Queensland.

As of today, the floods have affected nearly 200,000 people over an area that is larger than France and Germany - to put it into another perspective, an area that is the size of the American state of Texas is currently underwater. An estimated 22 townships have been left either isolated or inundated by the rising flood waters. Three of the major river systems are currently at flooding capacity. The rain is continuing to fall, and the flood is extending across to the South-East corner of the state. It may soon reach the NSW boarder. Toowoomba was hit yesterday with flash flooding - with walls of water eight metres high - which has decimated the town. The current death toll for Toowoomba alone is nine, with seventy-two reported missing.

75% of Queensland's coal mines are flooded out or shut down due to inaccessibility, and coal isn't getting into the ports in Sarina or Gladstone. Queensland is currently the supplier of 50% of the world's coking coal. This isn't taking into account the sheer scale of damage that has been done to crops and farmland, as well as the tourism industry, which are three of Queensland's biggest economic pullers. The sheer financial cost and recovery time the state is going to need to recover from the damage is going to be astronomical, and the rain is showing no signs of stopping any time soon. (The current damage estimate, with townships set to be hit again and more rivers to peak, is sitting at $5 billion dollars. This is only going to climb.)

If you can spare anything, even the smallest amount, online donations can be made to The Premier's Flood Relief Appeal, or through one of these alternative options.

Thank you for your time.

I'm spending my night playing games with my family so I have to get back to paying attention to that soon. I just wanted to say how grateful I am for all the amazing people I've met in this past year. Some of you have become people I consider my closest friends. I am beyond excited to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] icelily01 and [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory in the new year!

That reminds me! If anyone on my f-list is headed to the supernatural LA con in February that I don't know about, PLEASE let me know in the comments. I'd hate to miss the chance to meet any of you. Or even if you're just lurking, I'd love to hear from you!

Ok, more comprehensive year-end posts to come - love you all!

P.S. Hey, you. Yeah, you with the wine bottle and the awesome factor - ILY. Five stars!

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] kiwiana at Darren Criss on Glee: He's Making Parents Uncomfortable
One openly gay character on a hit teen show makes parents rave. Two gay characters on a hit teen show makes some parents uncomfortable. That appears to be the case with the introduction of Blaine, the new gay character on Glee, as played by television newbie Darren Criss.

Chris Colfer has been receiving rave reviews of his performance of the character Kurt Hummel on the hit Fox series since it debuted last year. His ability to play an openly gay character full of teenage angst including his crush on quarterback Finn has been a major hit with teens and fans alike. It is the introduction of a new character who may be a potential love interest for Kurt that has gotten some parents squirming in their seats.

Darren Criss’ debut performance in the role of Blaine has gotten tongues wagging. Some folks are hoping for a love connection between Kurt and Blaine. Some folks are definitely hoping the storyline gets trashed. His addition to the cast has already brought about Kurt’s first kiss although it wasn’t Blaine giving the kiss and some parents are concerned with where the story is headed. Based on comments on our previous posts on Darren’s addition to the cast some folks believe that having a same sex love story on early in the evening is inappropriate for kids or that the show is pushing too progressive of a storyline for the innocent eyes of teens to see.

It is apparently alright to introduce a new love interest for Quinn this season, but Kurt is going to have to wait for love until people become a little more comfortable with a gay love story on the show!

Please look after the readers you love.

We put ourselves out there with a greater risk than most other fanworks. While one can use plausible deniability to disassociate oneself from fanfic or fanvids or fanart because one's name is not actually winkingstar (for example), podficcers do not have that same luxury because those are actually our voices.

The Situation )

If you use last.fm or a similar service, please listen to your podfic in a separate area that is not accessed by last.fm (or whatever). And if you notice any podfic tracks in your listening stats, please delete them.

If you would like to signal boost this, please feel free to copy my words and/or link to this post.

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] winkingstar (Thank you!) I actually DID find metadata on one of my podfics when I read Fayjay's post and checked this out... That is terrifying. I'm so glad that at least it's just data, but people could still enter that information into google and find the actual stuff.

I'm going to SPN La con with [livejournal.com profile] icelily01 and she is hosting a Supernatural Trivia contest at this comm.

"Who can play?
Anyone! If you're a Supernatural fan and you want to play, you're more than welcome.

What are we playing exactly?
We're going to play a Supernatural version of trivia. The questions might be easy, they might be hard, heck, I don't know. I haven't made them up yet. They will cover topics from Seasons 1 to 5. NO QUESTIONS will involve Season 6 material. All you have to do is give the right answer. Give a wrong answer, you're out. Last person standing...WINS!

What do we win?
An epic prize! The FINAL TWO will win an autograph from the guest of your choice at LA Con. (This does not include Jensen or Jared as their autographs are already sold out, sorry!) I will personally ask them very nicely to write your name and little hearts if you want. And then I will mail it to you. All inclusive, totally paid for by me and elsewhere_kels. You can choose your guest as soon as you win, or wait and see who else is added to the Convention."

Click on the banner for more information and go on and sign up! (Also, you can still play if you're already going to a con and just tell us the name of a friend that you want to receive your prize!)

HELLO EVERYONE. =D I've missed you guys! I know I haven't posted in quite a while. After I went on vacation I was kind of crazy focused on just getting my big bang out, and then I... had this REALLY bizarre idea that it would jinx things if I posted before my posting date. XD

Today's my birthday, so in honour of that...

Give me a pairing and/or a prompt, and I will write you a one sentence ficlet.
(Fandoms: Supernatural, Merlin, Kingdom Hearts, Harry Potter, and SPN RPF.)

Just one sentence, because I'm feeling lazy, I'm afraid. XD

Starting this weekend, I am going to start rectifying the unfortunate business of not having seen all the SPN episodes - so reactions from every episode from the pilot until the end of season 5. Yaaaay!

...That's the plan, anyways. XD

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] icelily01:

Using only song names from ONE ARTIST, answer these questions. You can't use the band I used (no matter how tempted you may be...). Try not to repeat a song title. It's a lot harder than you think! Repost as "my life according to (band name)."

Describe yourself: I Do Believe in Love
How do you feel: Thank You Stars
Describe where you currently live: Just Like Heaven
If you could go anywhere, where would you go: If You Were a Sail Boat
Your favorite form of transportation: Nine Million Bicycles (lol, not at all actually, I can't ride a bike, but I do walk or bus everywhere)
Your best friend is: Faraway Voice
Your fear: Spider's Web

Thought for the Day: Toy Collection
How would you like to die: If the Lights Go Out

Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 41,112
Warnings: Trigger warnings for discussion of depression, mental illness, and past sexual and psychological abuse of minors.
Disclaimer: I don't own SPN.
Author's Note: While I have researched the topics that I've tackled in this story and have done my best to portray those issues sensitively and with respect to those with greater knowledge from first hand experiences, I have no doubt that there are aspects of this story that aren't completely realistic (either due to some gaps in my knowledge or a purposeful decision to gloss over details for pacing's sake). I hope that those unrealistic aspects are not so numerous as to hinder anyone's enjoyment of this story, but if they do I would just like to say thank you so much for giving this story a chance, anyways. :)
(Neurotic) Author's Note: Castiel makes some seriously irresponsible decisions regarding boundaries with Dean and Sam. I am not unaware of this and the character does see his faults for what they are. This aspect of the story is not meant to seem "okay" to anyone because it really isn't.

Summary: Dean Winchester was doing all right. He had a good job, a few friends, and all the people he loved were safe. He got by. Then he got a call from Sam in the middle of the night. Sam wasn't all right, and it turned out he hadn't been for a long time. Dean's little brother had no memory of the last four years of his life and only pieces of years before that, and all Dean could think of was how he'd smiled as he waved Sam-who-wasn't-Sam off to college. Sam didn't want to take over Dean's life, but he didn't know where else to turn. Dr. Castiel Novak was "a bleeding heart" and he was beginning to realize that neither of the brothers had gotten through their experiences unscathed.

Wow - I can't quite really believe it's over. Writing TDoPM has been an INCREDIBLE experience for me. I feel like I've really improved in my writing, I have a MUCH better idea of my stamina levels on fanfic writing (meaning next time don't sign up without a buffer, for crying out loud! XD), and taking part in Big Bang has brought me AMAZING friendships - some stronger ones with friends I already had, and a few totally new people that just catapulted straight into my heart.

TDoPM would LITERALLY not have been possible without these people:

My beta/cheerleader/alpha/everything-ever, [livejournal.com profile] icelily01! I am DELIGHTED to have found her out of the many betas that signed up for the big bang challenge, and she has since become one of my best friends. :) This woman put up with me tearing my hair out in her general direction at LEAST weekly, covered for me when we had to rush like mad because my brain was broken, and was my constant grammatical and emotional support the whole way through! Granted, there were times when chatting with her slightly distracted me from my work - but that was my fault, not her's. ;) She always took care to explain grammatical rules to me when she saw me repeating the same mistake, and I really improved my writing under her advice and encouragement. I could really go on for paragraphs about what working with [livejournal.com profile] icelily01 has meant to me, BUT there are also other people who deserve recognition!

[livejournal.com profile] ratherastory joined me for countless writing jams during the course of TDoPM's development, and she gently wrenched me out of the throes of writer's block more than once. She was always matter-of-fact in her advice and absolutely unshakable in her faith in me. [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory is an author that I've been friends with for a while and I have always really admired her work (seriously, anyone who hasn't checked her out? Go, now!), so hearing her good opinion of me meant so much. She even recorded a podfic for me when I finished my first 20K! (Which I still can't quite believe, but hey, she's awesome! Negotiating With Terrorists by [livejournal.com profile] pyrebi, if anyone's interested ^_^)

A very special thank you to my amazing artist, [livejournal.com profile] haraism:

She is INCREDIBLY talented! And believe it or not, she only just started tackling manips for the art for this story. :)
[livejournal.com profile] haraism really understood my ideas even though I was kind of unclear with them, probably even better than I did. XD And she really took the core of my story to heart - I am so happy with how much Sam is featured in her art. When I asked her why butterflies seemed to represent Sam in her art, she told me it was because of how he transformed in the story and how he will continue to do so - that meant SO much to me that she took his growth to heart like that. As much as TDoPM is a Dean/Cas fic, it's also kind of my love story to Sam (I know, my love is very complicated). Sam still has a long way to go, but we all know how strong he is! I have faith in him!

...Um, but I digress. XD Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] haraism so much for all the wonderful work you did for this project!

And a hundred thank yous to everyone who helped TDoPM become what it is today! There are so many people who cheered me on and lifted my spirits during this time. I love you all. &hearts

Thank you to my readers, too! There wouldn't be much point without you guys, would there? ;)

Love, Kels

&hearts &hearts &hearts &hearts
